With the R&S ATS1800M, Rohde & Schwarz introduces an extension to the well-established R&S ATS1800C, a compact antenna test range (CATR) based 5G NR mmWave test chamber for over-the-air (OTA) testing. By adding two side chambers, the existing test chamber turns into the only single-system solution that enables full 3GPP-specified conformance testing of a 5G NR mmWave device for radio resource management (RRM), including multiple angles of arrival (AoA).

Rohde & Schwarz paves way for early sub-THz research activities with new R&S FE170 D band frontend extensions

Rohde & Schwarz presents an innovative signal generation and analysis solution for measurements in the D band that will significantly simplify early next generation mobile communications research. The new R&S FE170 frontend extensions are easy to mount to and configure with the R&S SMW200A vector signal generator and the R&S FSW signal and spectrum analyzer. The extensions will allow the two high-end test instruments to cover frequency ranges between 110 GHz and 170 GHz – key spectrum for beyond 5G, for 6G technology and for future automotive radar applications.

DOCOMO and Rohde & Schwarz cooperate in pioneering beyond 5G with frequency bands up to 150 GHz

NTT DOCOMO INC. and Rohde & Schwarz have joined forces set up the world's first ultra-wideband channel sounder for mobile communications exceeding 100 GHz. They conducted radio wave propagation experiments at frequencies up to 150 GHz. The frequency bands from 100 GHz to 300 GHz are expected to enable further high-speed and large-capacity communication for the next generation beyond 5G.

Highlighted solutions include the R&S FSPN and R&S FSWP, two exceptionally powerful phase noise analyzers for characterizing laser systems. Measurement of residual phase noise of amplifiers at 80 GHz using interferometric measurement technique

This paper describes the measurement of additive/residual phase noise of power amplifiers or multipliers for example for automotive RADAR sensors at 80 GHz using the interferometric measurement approach in combination with a phase noise and VCO tester R&S FSWP. The setup provides a way to characterize the additive/residual phase noise of amplifiers down to -150 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset even in the microwave range at 80 GHz.

Rohde & Schwarz and MediaTek have successfully verified new location based services (LBS) features for 5G NR as defined in 3GPP Release 16. These features will not only improve emergency caller location, but also support upcoming LBS-related use cases in challenging indoor and outdoor environments with both, satellite based and terrestrial technologies. Rohde & Schwarz has extended the R&S TS-LBS test solution to support these and other Release 16 network based positioning features.

MEASUREMENTS IN REVERBERATION CHAMBER USING R&S® ELEKTRA

Reverberation Chambers (RVC) have become popular as an alternative to Anechoic Chamber (AC) facilities for electromagnetic emission & immunity tests. Unlike AC, RVC reflects waves creating multipath environment. EMC testing using reverberation chamber is accepted in various EMC test standards across different industries. The RVC is cost effective allowing high field strength generation without excessive amplification needs, eliminates the need for complex positioning of antennas and DUTs increasing test speed and simulates real-world electromagnetic environments more accurately. To ensure accurate and efficient testing, specialized EMC test software is required for data acquisition, automation, and analysis. This application note describes how to setup Elektra and perform measurements in RVC.

The groundbreaking test solution from Rohde & Schwarz verifies that SOS messaging and two-way messaging work reliably in no-coverage scenarios via non-terrestrial networks (NTN) in line with 3GPP. At MWC Barcelona, a test setup is showcased at the Rohde & Schwarz booth featuring a rugged 5G smartphone from Bullitt with integrated MediaTek 3GPP NTN Rel.17 chipset as DUT.
