At the i14y Lab, Rohde & Schwarz, VIAVI and Benetel combined their industry-leading capabilities to showcase their integrated, automated testing solution for the conformance testing of O-RAN radio units (O-RUs). This solution was used to test the commercial grade 4T4R RAN650 O-RU from Benetel according to O-RAN ALLIANCE and 3GPP specifications.

With the R&S VSE signal explorer software, amplifiers can be characterized in depth. ACLR, raw EVM, gain compression and many more results can be measured from a single capture using almost any input signal – whether mobile comms, satellite or just a ramp signal.

Investigate RF power amplifier linearization benefits in EDA - including a comparison to hardware test

R&S®VSESIM-VSS supports signal creation and analysis according to the latest 5G and Wi-Fi specifications; combining realistic standard-compliant signal performance investigation with linearization from the R&S VSE Direct DPD method shows what is possible in terms of signal purity and EVM.

Test setup is fully controlled via the VIAVI O-RU Test Manager, running on a PC together with the R&S®VSE (Vector Signal Explorer) for RF monitoring. The test setup can be used when M-MIMO with beamforming capabilities is integrated into the O-RU. Simply adding a Rohde & Schwarz oscilloscope and phase shift matrix enables conformance testing in line with the O-RAN ALLIANCE beamforming standards.

On the receiver side, the FSWX in combination with the VSE (Vector Signal Explorer) software records the impaired signal and analyzes it leveraging neural network inference using the HybridDeepRx AI receiver from Nokia Bell Labs demonstrating the benefit of the integrated DPoD that leads to enhance coverage for future 6G networks.
