Qualcomm Technologies has validated the solution, and it is now supported by the Qualcomm® Development Acceleration Resource Toolkit (QDART) for Small Cells. Optus has chosen to continue their mobile network benchmarking efforts with test equipment from Rohde & Schwarz. Through a competitive tender, Rohde & Schwarz has been selected by Optus to replace the existing 4G systems and to provide multiple 5G mobile benchmarking systems. These will measure end-to-end performance of mobile networks, in voice, video and data modes as well as for signal coverage. These measurements will enable continuous improvement by Optus to the quality of experience seen by their subscribers.

Next generation technologies in radar and satellite communication with high data rates call for innovative testing solutions to develop and manufacture RF components like voltage controlled oscillators (VCO). The R&S®FSPN phase noise analyzer increases efficiency and reproducibility of VCO characterization and phase noise measurements from lab to production.Voltage controlled oscillators are oscillators whose output frequency is controlled by means of an external tuning voltage, and they are used in a wide variety of electronic and RF applications like function generators, phase-locked loops including frequency synthesizers used in communication equipment. Different VCO design approaches yield different parameters and performance, and therefore it is important to measure or characterize VCOs under different conditions. This application note provides a short technical introduction to voltage controlled oscillators and explains the most common and the most important measurements made during the VCO characterization process.

For cellular device manufacturers, 5G NR means a new complexity with a high impact on the development process. Advanced RF interfaces with antenna arrays operating in the mmWave range are making test setups and procedures more challenging. With Mobile World Congress returning to Barcelona in June 2021, Rohde & Schwarz is showcasing the latest highlights of its cellular device testing portfolio, which cover all stages from early 5G NR device design phases to conformance testing to device manufacturing.

We also highlight our satellite channel emulation solution, featuring SpaceNexus SW, which loads any satellite constellation and generates RF fading profiles and scaled-down satellite flight path data.
