5G reality & evolution

5G networks are rolling out worldwide, new 5G devices are launched on an almost daily basis. All possible variations for implementing 5G from anchored in LTE, to fully independent and operating at frequencies up to 40 GHz as specified in 3GPP Releases 15 and 16, are in use. Release 17 adding further features to the evolving course of 5G is anticipated in 2022. 6G

5G is now, but what is beyond? While 5G network roll-outs and their optimizations are in full swing, fundamental research on what the next generation of wireless communications may look like has begun. The D-Band from 110 GHz to 170 GHz includes potential 6G candidate frequencies, currently being investigated for short-range communication with ultra-high data rates.
