Rohde & Schwarz USA (RSA), the US subsidiary for our global company based in Munich, Germany, is looking for a highly motivated Protocol Application Engineer in the San Diego, CA area. As an Application Engineer at RSA, you’ll provide solutions to the complex problems faced by engineers and scientists designing and building today’s most advanced wireless applications. Working alongside our sales, marketing and R&D teams, you will be demonstrating products, providing training, developing new features on our test solution and delivering technical support to our wide-ranging customer base throughout the US. By functioning as a consultative solutions provider, our Application Engineers are often treated as an extension of the customer’s internal technical teams. Your tasks

Technical consultant for wireless protocol testing supporting customer R&D labs
Consultant to customers creating test plans and test methods for 4G/5G wireless protocol technologies
Develop, integrate and support wireless protocol test cases
Review 3GPP Protocol Specifications
Support customers on site, mostly in USA but occasionally in Asia or Europe as per project demands.
Be a part of global Application Engineering team, actively contribute with ideas on product and process improvements

Your qualifications

B.A./B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent educational certificate
Experience in Python and object-oriented programming
Extensive experience working with mobile communications protocols – 5G NR, LTE – Physical Layer, Layer 2, RRC, NAS
Experience in data centric protocols – eg. TCP/IP, SIP/SDP, RTP, RTCP
Proven ability to learn new concepts quickly and deliver under pressure
Experience working with test equipment including radio communications testers, spectrum analyzers and signal generators
Excellent verbal/written communication and customer interfacing skills
Domestic and International travel – up to 10-15%

This is a full-time position with a base salary range of $160K-$180K plus (bonus/commission) & benefits. The range is determined by the position, geographic location and level. Individual pay within the range is determined by several factors including location, education or training, relevant work history, sales incentive structure and job-related skills.
