Latest technologies in communications and the enhancements in Aerospace & Defense or Broadcast ask for higher frequencies and larger bandwidths. In other areas like IoT or wearable devices for e-health, minimized power consumption is a key requirement to extend battery lifetime. All these trends drive the need for new specific components to enable the next generation systems addressing the challenging requirements of mobility, connectivity, highest data rates, performance, robustness and power efficiency.

To pick one example, 5G alone is driving the need in multiple directions, actually as divers as the various applications for 5G. At the first time, mass products shall go up to microwave frequencies in the 28 or 39 GHz range enabling high data rates through wide RF bandwidths of hundreds of MHz. Beamforming will be an essential part of the 5G system.
