R&S®Browser in the Box from Rohde & Schwarz Cybersecurity enables secure participation in web conferences

With a new product feature for R&S Browser in the Box, the IT security expert ensures security for video conferences.

Munich, February 11, 2021 – Web conferences have become an indispensable part of our everyday working lives, with the use of a microphone - and for many also, a webcam - a must. Until now, no solution enabled the use of a webcam in a secure browsing environment. Users could only use webcams in non-virtualized browsers and conferencing tools in desktop apps. However, both require an additional non-secured Internet connection, so use is always associated with an increased security risk.

R&S Browser in the Box is the only solution with a new product feature that now also enables secure participation in web conferences in a fully virtualized browsing environment. A corresponding function for microphone use was already integrated. Now the IT security expert is adding webcam support. By virtualizing the webcam, unauthorized access to a camera becomes impossible when using R&S Browser in the Box. After the administrator approves webcam use and enables the option for the end user, he can activate the webcam as needed. In this way, R&S Browser in the Box users retain authority over their camera at all times and decide for themselves when they want to activate it securely. The new feature is currently compatible with the following video conferencing tools: Microsoft Teams, Zoom, GoToMeeting, Jitsi and Circuit (compatibility with Webex is expected after its next update).

Browsers are the most common gateway for cyberattacks on government and enterprise endpoints and networks. The use of applications, collaboration tools, email, and downloads through the browser can lead to the injection of malicious code. Thanks to the complete separation of the browser from a computer's operating system, R&S Browser in the Box ensures that such malware has no chance.
